Types of Back Pain Acupuncture Can Help With:

  1. Lower Back Pain (Lumbago)

    • Chronic Lower Back Pain: Many people suffer from long-term lower back pain due to overuse, poor posture, or sedentary lifestyles. Acupuncture helps by reducing inflammation, improving blood flow, and releasing tight muscles in the lower back.
    • Acute Lower Back Pain: Whether caused by lifting heavy objects or a sudden injury, acupuncture provides fast relief for acute lower back pain by promoting natural pain relief through endorphin release.
  2. Sciatica

    • Nerve Pain Radiating from the Lower Back: Sciatica is characterized by sharp, shooting pain that runs from the lower back down through the buttocks and legs, often caused by a compressed nerve. Acupuncture targets specific points along the meridians, releasing pressure on the sciatic nerve and reducing pain and discomfort.
  3. Upper and Middle Back Pain

    • Tension and Muscle Strain: Poor posture, long hours of desk work, or carrying heavy bags can lead to upper and middle back pain. Acupuncture helps relax tight muscles in these areas, improving circulation and reducing stiffness.
    • Shoulder and Neck Pain: Pain in the upper back is often linked with shoulder and neck tension. Acupuncture addresses the interconnected muscles and helps relieve tension from the upper back down to the neck and shoulders.
  4. Herniated or Bulging Discs

    • Chronic Disc-Related Back Pain: Acupuncture can reduce the inflammation and pain associated with herniated or bulging discs. While it doesn’t reverse disc damage, it helps relieve nerve compression and provides effective pain management, allowing for better movement and less discomfort.
  5. Degenerative Disc Disease

    • Age-Related Back Pain: As people age, the discs in their spine can wear down, leading to chronic pain and stiffness. Acupuncture improves the health of the spine by increasing circulation, reducing pain, and promoting mobility in people with degenerative disc issues.
  6. Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction

    • Pelvic-Related Lower Back Pain: When the sacroiliac (SI) joint becomes misaligned or inflamed, it can cause pain in the lower back and hips. Acupuncture helps correct this imbalance by targeting specific points that reduce inflammation and restore mobility.
  7. Sports Injuries

    • Athletic and Outdoor Enthusiasts in Cairns: Cairns residents who enjoy outdoor activities, such as hiking or water sports, may suffer from sports-related back injuries. Acupuncture supports recovery by reducing pain, promoting healing, and restoring range of motion after strains, sprains, or injuries.
