1. Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be able to assist your conception alongside IVF procedures and in conjunction with your fertility doctor.

Try at least three acupuncture treatments by a Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist who is registered with the National Registration board of Australia for Acupuncture. Please call me on 0408 054 538 for an Acupuncture treatment.

Strategies for improving your fertility – general information (not related to acupuncture).

Improve you Mitchondria

Mitchondria are the energy generating structures inside all of your cells. The mitchondria inside your eggs are what provides energy to your developing embryo once the egg and sperm have been joined. Once the sperm has penetrated the eggg its midpie e and tail fall away, so that only the head of the sperm fuses with the egg.

Therefore all the mitochondria responsible for providing rapidly dividing celss with energy come from the woman. Mitochondria are highly sensitive to free radical damage: therefore you need a lot of antioxidants inside your body to protect them.

Mitchondria contain numerous inner cell membranes which are composed of delicate fatty acids. These fatty acids are highly susceptible to oxidation. Along with antioxidants, mitchondria have a high requirement for omega 3 fats and magnesium – antioxidants are found in grapeseed extract (www.mercola.com) and Krill Oil has good omega 3 (www.mercola.com). Good magesium supplements can also be found at www.mercola.com.

3. Maximise Methylation

Methylation is the process your body uses to repair DNA. This process is heavily reliant on B Vitamins and is influenced by several lifestyle factors. A blood test for homocysteine will give you some indication of how well methylation functions in your body: high levels of homocysteine are a definite indicator of a problem and you should not attempt to conceive until this is resolved. A blood test called a full blood count can reveal defiency of B vitamins; having abnormally large red blood cells (macrocytic anaemia) can indicate poor methylation. Vitamins B6, B12 and folate are the most important nutrients for methylation and it is important to take them in supplement form to guarantee you receive enough.

IVF Clinic Cairns

Excess sugar, coffee, cigarettes and alcohol can all deplete you of B vitamins, but they are not substances you’ ll be consuming while trying to fall pregnant anyway.

So eat more – sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, salmon, chicken, beef, and eggs. If you are vegetarian please take a B vitamin supplement.

Use Natural Progesterone

Progesterone will help to hold the pregnancy until the placenta is well formed and can produce sufficient progesterone on its own. Progesterone will also help to dampen down an overactive immune system and reduce the risk of your immune cells destroying the embryo. Progesterone supplementation in the form of pessaries, troches or cream should be used for the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. Progesterone is commonly used I IVF but it is usually not used for long enough.

I hope you have a successful conception – please call me on 0408 054 538 for an Acupuncture Treatment if you are in Cairns.  Acupuncture White Rock, Acupuncture Woree, Acupuncture Manoora

What is Acupuncture

IVF Clinic Cairns

Acupuncture is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with Chinese herbal medicine, tui na (orthopedic massage) and Qi Gong (meditation and energy healing.)

With a history of almost 3000 years it is still used extensively today to treat literally millions of people around the world.

Acupuncture affects the physiological functioning of the body by the insertion of fine needles into particular reflex points all over the body.

How does acupuncture work?

Medically acupuncture works by regulating carious systems in the body – hormonal, nervous, immune, circulatory, muscular etc.

In traditional Chinese Medicine theory, acupuncture regulates the flow of qi (pronounced chee), a type of unseen energy or electromagnetic force traveling in a system of channels which connect acupncture points to tissues and organs.  Acupuncture White Rock, Acupuncture Woree, Acupuncture Manoora

Qi takes on many forms in the body, and is the foce that warms us, digests our food, moves our limbs and basically keeps us alive. When the qi, blood, fluids or spirit are somehow affected, the result is pain, discomfort or disease. Acupuncture can affect the flow of Qi in the channels and organs, thereby affecting hormones, nerves and muslces, immunity, circulation and so on.  Acupuncture White Rock, Acupuncture Woree, Acupuncture Manoora

What does acupuncture feel like?

Some people will nevertry acupuncture because they think it will hurt, even if they are suffering a chronic and painful condition.

Some sensitive patients do feel some discomfort when the needles first go in, but most people are pleasantly surprised at how comfortable acupuncture therapy is, often falling asleep on the treatment table. The needles are generally between 0.2 and 0.25mm in width. Five of these fit in the bore of one hyperdermic needle….they are as fine as a human hair!  Acupuncture White Rock, Acupuncture Woree, Acupuncture Manoora

They are inserted quickly to minimize skin pain, and when correctly stimulated, there is a feeling of tingling, mild cramping or an electric sensation at the point.

How deep the needles are inserted varies from a few millimetres to a couple of inches or more depending on the size of the patient and where the point lies on the body.

Do Acupuncturist have to study in China?

Australia is leading the western world in it’s availability of university based degree courses in Chinese Medicine – majoring in acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, or both – and most of these institutions have affiliations with Chinese Medicine teaching hospitals to provide an opportunity for post-graduate study. Chinese Medicine practitioners are now governed by new ligeslation passed on by Australian Government preventing unqualified people from calling themselves Acupuncturists or Chinese Medicine Practitioners.  Acupuncture White Rock, Acupuncture Woree, Acupuncture Manoora
